yes he does know what he doing because this was a glitch found early in halo 3 release it is on www.bouncefx.com and its not hard to do.

I`m fairly certain he did this on purpose because if it was an accident, I don`t know about you guys, but I`d be like ``Wtf! I just jumped a quarter of the map!``
But his radar shows him making no sounds..sounds kinda confident it would happen.
